Whitewater rafting and scenic floats in Jackson Hole provide unforgettable experiences and a unique way to take in the scenic Snake River. Check out our 7 reasons travelers love Jackson Hole rafting trips!

You can choose to raft fast or slow...or both.

Depending on which rafting company you choose, travelers can choose from a wide range of Jackson Hole rafting trips! Typically, a 7-mile scenic float allows you to float down a tranquil portion of the river for 3-3-½ hours. You’ll most likely stay dry and still have time to make other plans for the rest of the day. If you’re ready for more excitement, however, 8-miles of rushing whitewater will definitely get your heart pumping! (Note: a 16-mile trip provides the best of both trips with a scenic float and the whitewater thrill.)

It’s extra fun for ages 6 and up.

Whitewater rafting is a safe and fun adventure. If you’re choosing a whitewater trip, the rapids that run through Snake River Canyon are Class II and III, which provide plenty of splash and thrill without being too scary. Most rafting companies allow ages 6 and up to ride and supply everyone with a life jacket and instructions on safety.

The scenery is breathtaking.

The Snake River provides over 20 miles of water to enjoy by raft. With the Grand Tetons as a backdrop, you will have plenty of amazing scenic pictures to remind you of your trip. Depending on the time of day, you might even get to see wildlife close to the river including moose! Having an expert guide do the ‘driving’, you can sit back, relax and take in the magnificent beauty along the river.

You can raft May through September.

While the high (busy) season for rafting is roughly June 20 through August 20, raft trips start as early as May and go through mid-September. The Snake River is fed from Jackson Lake Dam which allows for a longer season, and more rafting time for you!

River temps are the perfect kind of cool.

The water temperature during the summer is a refreshing 55-65 degrees, comfortable enough to cool off in the summer heat. Rafters in the early season of May-June will experience water temps in the 40’s-50’s, but with some extra layers from a wetsuit, the trip will still be enjoyable. Pro tip: the September trips will need warmer gear for the morning, but the afternoons can still be very comfortable.

Local guides are highly experienced.

Many of the guides who work for the rafting companies call Jackson Hole home. Others come back for the summer season again and again. They know the area and enjoy what they do. If you’re on a scenic float trip, the guides can point out hidden gems along the way - from bald eagle and falcon habitat to beaver dams.

Jackson Hole rafting companies are professional and friendly.

While rafting through the rapids on the Snake River is relatively safe, you still want to be in good hands with a reputable and professional rating company. Many of these companies have been in the Jackson Hole area for decades. They want to make sure you have a fun and safe trip and will provide instructions on what to expect, how to use the oars, and how to work together as a team. Here are a few of the rafting companies that run the Snake River:

Dave Hansen Whitewater and Scenic River Trips

Jackson Hole Whitewater
